Owner, Ronnie Horruitner, known as "Root" in the firefighting community is a retired fireman, who was the station chef for 25 years. He was known for quite a few of his signature dishes, but his chili was a crowd favorite.

In 2002, he was a contestant in a Hook & Ladder Cooking Competition in New York, where his Caribbean Blazed Shrimp took home a top award and later in 2004 he competed again and once again won a top award with his Spiced Rum Cake. He also appeared on numerous cooking channels and publications. His award-winning Spiced Rum Cake will be making Daily Special appearances on the menu from time to time.
